SEASONS
I picked up the game bright eyed and bushy tailed as an eleven year old upset with his parents for making him quit football. The past thirteen years of life have been a testament to the virtuous decision they made. I grew up on a small farm on the outskirts of Boyle County, "Title Town," where needless to say Golf didn't quite fit the stereo type of the hyped up blue collar football culture. Danville Country Club provided me a safe haven to discover the endless pursuit of the mastery of golf. For seven years, I seemingly grew up on those 18 holes escaping out to play any chance the weather allowed it. Finding myself on those late summer nights fueled by BBQ chicken wraps from the clubhouse I ducked the stressors of the outside world. Despite having success on the junior level I egotistically declined offers to to play collegiate golf because I didn't get the billboard D-1 full ride scholarship to the University of Kentucky like I dreamed. So with the summer of 2018 coming to a close, I threw my sticks in the closet at home packed up and headed towards Lexington be a Wildcat student. After three and a half of the best years of my life I graduated with my Bachelors in Writing, Rhetoric, and Digital Studies and a neglected golf game in hopes of pursuing Law school in the fall. For the first time in my life I wasn't enrolled in school, a part of a golf team, or employed! Without aim and clear direction closing that year I found myself peeking over towards my dusty bag tucked away in the corner of my closet. My best friend at the time was playing golf at Kentucky State University resulting in me knocking the rust off my sticks along side him while he prepared for his upcoming Spring season. A monster was reborn the end of that Winter and the events to come with it would change my life. One thing led to another. January 16th rolled around, KSU's first day of classes, and I was enrolled as a Thorobred, member of the golf team, and in pursuit of my Masters in Public Administration. By the end of 2022 I had competed in 9 collegiate golf tournaments in 5 different states. Life happened fast and as quickly as my collegiate career began it came to an abrupt end when my coach pulled my full ride athletic scholarship to accommodate school budgets. Although short, my college stent relit the candle to my fiery passion for the great game of golf. In 2023 I worked for Strawbridge Studios as a school photographer where I learned about the power of photography inspiring me to create my own freelance business, wgphotography999, capturing genuine moments of authenticity. While working an event I was fortunate enough to meet a member of a well respected local club where I was reintroduced to the lifestyle I had access to growing up. I currently work full time as an Assistant Professional at Keene Trace Golf Club assisting members and golfers of all walks. This blog will be an outlet for sharing where my sticks take me as well as advice and intel into the local golf scene. I am beyond blessed and grateful to have made it this far in life and will watch the seasons pass with my sticks on my back until the blood fails to pump through my body.
